Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Mark 3:1-6. Who are “they” in verse 2? What is wrong with these people? What do we learn about them in the rest of the passage? What’s the warning for us?
  2. What is the purpose of the Sabbath? Consider the OT instructions for Sabbath (see Exodus 20:8-11 and Deut. 5:12-15). For what purpose were these opponents of Jesus keeping the Sabbath?
  3. What are some things you have done to keep the Sabbath holy? What has worked? What seems to not work? What new things could you do to keep the Sabbath?
  4. Hebrews 3:12 says, “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.” In light of the religious leaders wanting to kill Jesus, how do we “obey” this command from Hebrews as a church community?
