Learning Jesus
Crazy or Demon-Possessed?
Mark 3:20-30
- Is Jesus Out of His Mind?
- Is Jesus Possessed by a Demon?
- Resting in Jesus as Lord
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion
- Read Mark 3:20-30. Why would Jesus’ family consider him to be “out of his mind”? What are they concerned about?
- Why would the scribes say Jesus is possessed by Satan? What do the scribes want to accomplish?
- What does Jesus explain in his parables in verses 23-26? Based upon these verses, why would it be absurd to think Jesus is possessed by Satan?
- What do we learn about Jesus’ ministry in verse 27? How is this comforting?
- C.S. Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity, “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic… or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse.” Explain how this passage makes Lewis’ point clear. How do people in our culture typically “categorize” Jesus?
