Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Mark 3:20-30. Why would Jesus’ family consider him to be “out of his mind”? What are they concerned about?
  2. Why would the scribes say Jesus is possessed by Satan? What do the scribes want to accomplish?
  3. What does Jesus explain in his parables in verses 23-26? Based upon these verses, why would it be absurd to think Jesus is possessed by Satan?
  4. What do we learn about Jesus’ ministry in verse 27? How is this comforting?
  5. C.S. Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity, “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic… or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse.” Explain how this passage makes Lewis’ point clear. How do people in our culture typically “categorize” Jesus?
