Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Mark 8:34-38. From your own reading and study of the Gospel of Mark, how does Mark’s structure serve the message he wants to communicate about Jesus? What would be the key verses from Mark?
  2. What is the significance of Jesus’ invitation to follow him while he is on the way to Jerusalem? In what does he invite disciples to follow him?
  3. Jesus’ travel to Jerusalem (chapters 8-10) has as “book-ends” the healings of two blind men. How does the nature of these healings impact the command to follow Jesus?
  4. In what ways are you following Jesus? In what ways do you not follow Jesus (consider the example of the disciples in Mark 8:32, 9:34, & 10:37)? What is the process we need in order to follow Jesus more closely?
