Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Romans 7:7-25. Many commentators have debated who experiences the realities Paul describes in this passage: unbelievers only or believers. What do you think? Support your position from the passage.
  2. What does sin do? How does it work? Consider, in particular, verse 11.
  3. What is Paul’s assessment of the Law of God in this passage?
  4. Compare these two statements: v. 18 “I know nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh.” And v. 22 “I delight in the law of God, in my inner being.” What do these statements reveal about Paul’s understanding of a Christian?
  5. Why does Paul praise God and Jesus in verse 25? What is the rescue Paul longs for? How does Romans 8:1 tie into these verses?

Memory Verse of the Week: Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (ESV)
