Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  2. What does Elijah mean in verse 21 that the people were “limping” between two opinions? In what ways do we “limp” between God and false hopes/idols?
  3. Why is the cry for an answer (v. 26 & 37) so important in this encounter? What does it look like to cry for an answer from a modern idol? In what ways have you seen God answer prayer in your life?
  4. Consider the connection of fire with the Lord in Leviticus 9:24 and Hebrews 12:28-29. What is the significance of the fire?
  5. Why do we tend to long for and depend on “mountain top” experiences? What does God do to sustain our faith?
