  • Elijah as God’s Justice Messenger
  • Repentance, Mercy, & Justice For Us

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read 1 Kings 21:1-29. Why would Naboth not sell his vineyard (consider Lev. 25:23)? What do the actions of Ahab teach us about his character? What do we learn about Jezebel from her actions?
  2. In what ways is Naboth a type for the people of God throughout history? In what ways do we suffer injustice on account of our faith in Christ?
  3. What role does Elijah play in this story? What does this say about Elijah’s progression from the last time we saw him (in the cave, hiding from Jezebel, 19:9)?
  4. In what ways does God’s justice prevail in this story of Naboth? How can we explain the delay in justice? How do we find comfort in God’s justice while living in the midst of injustice?Consider verses 27-29. How do repentance, God’s mercy, and God’s justice work in harmony, without undermining one another? How can we be assured of God’s mercy?

Memory Verse of the Week: John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
