Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Galatians 1:1-10. How is every sin a desertion from the grace of Christ? Consider Paul’s teachings on various sins in 1 Cor. 6:13-20; Eph. 5:3-5; 1 Tim. 6:9-10, 17-19.
  2. Every “gospel” answers three questions: what is good? what went wrong? how do we fix it? How do the temptations to various sins attempt to answer those questions?
  3. How is the “religious” desertion that Paul is confronting in Galatians more dangerous than other sins? How does this desertion answer the “gospel questions”? What types of religious desertion might we be susceptible to?
  4. Consider verse 10. What point is Paul making with this series of rhetorical questions? How can pleasing man be opposite of serving Christ? How do we serve Christ?

Memory Verse of the Week: Galatians 1:10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. (ESV)
