Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Galatians 5:7-15. What does the metaphor of running communicate about the Christian life? Why does Paul like this metaphor so much?
  2. In verses 8 & 13 Paul speaks about our “call.” Who calls us? What does it mean to be “called”? Consider also Romans 8:28-30 and Ephesians 4:1.
  3. In verse 12 Paul speaks a harsh curse on the false teachers. Why does Paul go to such an extreme? Reconsider Galatians 1:6-9. How does this curse impact our approach to Christian doctrine?
  4. How does love flow from our freedom in Christ? After spending so much time arguing that we are not under law, why does Paul summarize the whole law and command us to keep it?

Memory Verse of the Week:
Galatians 5:13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. (ESV)
