Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Hosea 2:2-23. Consider verse 2-5 and 8. What do we learn about the nature of sin from these verses? Why is sexual unfaithfulness such a good analogy for understanding sin?
- Take note of the nine “I will…” statements in verses 6-13 (nine is ESV). What is God pledging to do in these statements? Are these mercy or judgment? Explain.
- There is a transition in verse 14. What does this transition highlight about God and his ultimate aim with his bride?
- Take note of the “I will…” statements in verses 14-23. What is God pledging to do in these statements? How are these connected with the “I will…” statements in verses 6-13?
- Explain how verses 14-23 provide a picture of our relationship with God, our salvation, and our sanctification.
Memory Verse of the Week:
Hosea 2:19 And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. (ESV)
